Setting out and making/setting up frames

Today we got starting on the framing. We started out by using the chalk line to mark where all the walls where going to be in the house. After that we made our plates for each wall we made them them by nailing two pieces of four by two together at the right length.

We then got into setting out where our studs, windows and doors etc and this was making an allowance for corner studs, windows and so on we then went into the classroom and started writing out a cutting list. The cutting list showed use all the measurements needed for studs, window studs, bottom and top jacks, lintels and bottom trims.

Once we finished the cutting list we went outside and started making the frames. We by nailing the stud to the top and bottom jack on the points the were marked out. We then added in the the window studs the lintel and dwangs.

Once we finished smacking the frames together we started setting them up. First we got them up on the floor and made sure they were in line with our old chalk line. We then either nailed them into the other other studs, floor and braced them etc and made them square if they weren't. We would nail a brace at the top of the frame and level get a level on the side while someone pushes the way it needed to go. then we finished up by nailing the rest up and make sure they were all plumb.

We then nail on these metal straps from the floor to the frame they provided more support and strength. It was now time to get ready to start planning out the trusses but first we had to nail up to ceiling battens. We had to nail them all around the outside of the house first and make them flush with the outside of the frame the ones that where in the inside of the house we nailed them in with 50mm hanging out of each side of the frame.
